Local business keeps resources, relationships, and practical support closer to home. A small storefront can help a neighborhood not by being loud, but by being dependable.
That is the spirit behind this shop: simple products, direct contact, and a business that feels like it belongs to the people around it.
Soap-like materials go back thousands of years. Ancient Mesopotamian evidence suggests that mixtures made from fats and ashes were used very early, especially for cleaning wool and textiles. Over time, methods improved and soap became part of everyday washing and hygiene in more recognizable forms.
Saponification is the reaction between fats and a strong alkali. Many fats are triglycerides, meaning fatty acids are attached to a glycerol backbone. During soapmaking, the alkali breaks and rearranges those bonds, producing glycerol and the salts of fatty acids that we call soap.
It sounds simple, but good soapmaking still takes careful measuring, controlled mixing, and time for curing.
Lard contributes a fatty-acid profile that can produce a firm, creamy, long-lasting bar. When a formula is balanced well, it often feels milder than harsher, highly cleansing formulas. Even so, any true soap may feel drying for some skin types, so the full recipe and cure still matter.
